BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team dropped its final doubleheader in Commonwealth play, falling to nationally ranked Endicott by scores of 12-2 and 3-0 on Saturday.

GAME ONE:  Endicott 12, Wentworth 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott took advantage of an Early Wentworth error to score its first run, while junior Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) drove in two runs with a single, and sophomore Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) and graduate student Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) each drove in runs to give the Gulls a 5-0 lead after one.
  • The Gulls increased their lead to 9-0 in the third inning, thanks to an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, as well as a two-run double from junior Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.).
  • Wentworth got on the board in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 9-1. With one out, graduate student Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) drew a walk and came around to score two batters later on a freshman Matt Robinson (Mystic, Conn.) triple.
  • Endicott scored two in the forth on a two-run triple from freshman TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) and plated one in the fifth when senior Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • The top of the sixth saw junior Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) lead off with a single and go to second on a McManus single. With one out, Peruzzi and McManus each advanced on a wild pitch and Peruzzi scored when Robinson read on a wild pitch on a third strike.
  • Offensively for the Black & Gold, McManus and sophomore Jake Prisco (Bridgewater, Mass.) were each 2-for-3. Senior Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) took the loss (2-5), striking out four in four innings. Freshman Conor Whitehead (Southington, Conn.) allowed one run on two hits over the final two innings.

GAME TWO:  Endicott 3, Wentworth 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both Wentworth junior Brodi Farinas (Lewiston, Maine) and Endicott senior Gabe Van Emon (Lexington, Mass.) combined to set down the first 15 batters they faced before a leadoff double by MacDougall in the bottom of the third eventually led to the Gulls' first run of the game. Endicott added a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Grabowski to make it 2-0.
  • Van Emon was perfect through the first five innings before junior Griffin Cournan (Pembroke, Mass.) broke up the bid with a leadoff double, however, was stranded there after the next three batters were retired, two of them on strikeouts.
  • An RBI double by MacDougall in the seventh gave the hosts a 3-0 lead.
  • Freshman Matthew Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) led off the ninth inning with a walk and went to second on a Prisco single. A double play moved Prisco into scoring position, however, a strikeout ended the game.
  • Farinas (0-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three in seven innings. Freshman Alec Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) pitched a scoreless eighth.

ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today was the 57th and 58th all-time meetings between the two teams.
