Golf Wraps up Fall Slate of Matches

BREWSTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule competing at the 86th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship. The two-day, 36-hole event was contested at The Captains Course and was played on the par 72, 6,610-yard Port Course on Sunday and the par 72, 6,687-yard Starboard Course on Monday.

Wentworth finished with a two-day total of 670 (332-338), placing the Leopards 13th in the 16-team field. The Black & Gold were 12th after Sunday's first round. Babson College captured the team championship with a two-day total of 591 (291-300), while Beaver student-athlete Nicholas Gianelos earned medalist honors as he shot a two-day total of 143 (-1) to lead the 80 competing student-athletes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior Ben Wright (Boxborough, Mass.) finished tied for 27th after shooting a 161. Wright shot a career-low 77 in Sunday's opening round.
  • Senior Jared Turgeon (Dover, N.H.) matched a career-best when he shot an 80 in Sunday's opening round. He followed that up with an 85 on Monday to card a 165 and finish tied for 41st.
  • Junior Albert Duart (Lleida, Spain) shot a 170 (86-84), which tied him for 64th overall.
  • Senior Nicholas Kurtz (Dover, N.H.) and freshman Nico Alonso (Madrid, Spain) each shot a 175, which tied them for 64th. Alonso went 89-86 for the tournament while Kurtz shot 90-85.

  • Wentworth will continue its schedule in the spring, with events and dates to be announced during the winter.
