HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After failing to convert on a power play in the opening minutes of the game, the Mules took a 1-0 lead just short of the 12-minute mark of the first period. Quinn Dolye picked up the first goal for Colby, and two minutes later Jack Sullivan connected on a 5-on-3 goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Wentworth killed off the remaining penalty and ended the period with a two goal deficit.
  • The Leopards got an early power play of their own in the second, but could not cut into the lead. Just 19 seconds after the man advantage ended, the Mules picked up their third goal, as Justin Grillo picked up the first of his two goals on the afternoon to push the lead to 3-0 for Colby. Michael Morrissey then scored just short of the halfway point of the period to give the Mules a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Leopards got on the board with just under seven minutes to go in the period, as freshman defenseman Chris Tamer (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) picked up his third goal of the year, with freshman forwards Luke Jeffries (Kanata, Ont.) and Sean Brown (Seabrook, N.H.) providing the assists.
  • Wentworth looked to get within two to start off the third, but were unable to connect on a power play that carried over to the start of the period. The Mules converted a power play of their own to extend their lead back to four goals, but junior forward Kevin Obssuth (Chester, N.J.) scored 27 seconds later, as junior forward Sam Milnes picked up the assist on the Leopards' second goal.
  • Grillo scored his second of the game for Colby with 8:32 to go in the third, followed by the first collegiate goal from freshman defenseman George Weiner (Wayne, N.J.) late in the third, coming off assists from sophomore forward Josh Faussett (Okemos, Mich.) and Obssuth, who leads the team with eight assists on the year. Colby added an empty net goal in the final seconds, as the Mules closed the game out with a 7-3 victory.
