HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Shortly after Curry had killed off a penalty, freshman Leevi Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.), who was serving the penalty, went in alone and gave the Colonels a 1-0 lead at the 5:12 mark.
  • With time winding down in the period, Wentworth tied the game at 1-all as sophomore Josh Fausett (Okemos, Mich.) created a turnover in the Curry zone and fed senior Joey O'Leary (Boston, Mass.) who tallied the goal. Wentworth had a 7-3 shot advantage in the opening period.
  • The Colonels scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Senior Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ont.) gave the hosts a 2-1 lead when he scored from senior Alex Ochterbeck (Plano, Texas) and senior Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.) at 4:11. At the 12:45 mark, freshman Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) gave Curry a two-goal lead when he scored from senior Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) and sophomore George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.).
  • Wentworth mounted pressure in the third period and, with 1:45 left and the Leopards shorthanded, sophomore Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) was pulled for an extra attacker. A Curry penalty resulted in a 6-on-4 situation with 1:11 left and the Black & Gold had a shot blocked and one went wide before O'Leary put a shot on net with 22 seconds left that was saved by senior Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.).
  • Cooper made 24 saves for Curry while Oliver turned aside 20. Wentworth had a 25-23 shot advantage for the game.
