HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The hosts wasted little time getting on the board with junior Kyle Knight (Mantua, N.J.) scored just 1:18 into the contest. However, Wentworth quickly responded as junior Josh Faussett (Okemos, Mich.) capitalized on a turnover and knotted the game at 1-all at the 2:50 mark.
  • Freshman Nikolas Sombrowski (Fernie, B.C.) gave the Leopards a 2-1 lead when Wilson and junior Matt Smoliga (Glenville, Ill.) set up freshman Nikolas Sombrowski (Fernie, B.C.), giving Wentworth a 2-1 lead at the 7:45 mark. With 1:42 left, the Golden Bears tied the game at 2-all on a goal from senior John D'Aniello (Toms River, N.J.).
  • Wilson picked up his second assist on the game on a Smoliga power-play goal at 2:16, a goal which was also assisted by sophomore Mitch McGinn (Salem, N.H.). Western New England tied the game at the 8:18 mark on a goal from sophomore Sam Mitchell (New Fairfield, Conn.).
  • With 3:40 left in the period, the Black & Gold went on a major power play and took advantage of the extra man, scoring three times with Wilson factoring in all three of the goals. At 17:24, Wilson and Faussett set up freshman Travis Marchant (Londonderry, N.H.) before Wilson scored what would be the game winner 38 seconds later with graduate student Sean Healey (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Nolan Lowe (Toronto, Ont.) assisting on the goal. Wilson and sophomore Jacob Shankar (Johnstown, Ont.) provided the assists on McGinn's marker, 44 seconds into the third period.
  • Shortly after the power play ended, the Leopards took a 7-3 lead with freshman Johnny Riggins (Bethpage, N.Y.) tallying his first collegiate goal from classmate Nick Bosch (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and senior Kasey O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.). Western New England junior Matt Dougherty (Philadelphia, Pa.) netted a power-play goal at 17:32 to round out the scoring.
  • Freshman Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.) made 29 saves for Wentworth, which had a 41-33 shot advantage.
