EVERETT, Mass. – Three goals in a span of 37 seconds in the opening frame set the Endicott Gulls men's ice hockey team (3-2-1, 3-1-1 CCC) up to hold off the Wentworth Institute of Technology (3-5, 1-4 CCC) in a 6-2 decision Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Gulls opened the scoring on the powerplay 12:18 into the opening frame as sophomore Primo Self (Grand Rapids, Mich.) danced his way down to the bottom of the circle and pounced the puck into the net.
- Endicott added to their advantage just 20 seconds later as freshman Ben Jenkinson (Nantucket, Mass.) tapped in a back-door pass by senior Drew Lorinchak (Hamilton, Va.), marking a 2-0 score.
- The visitors brought their lead to three just 17 seconds after Jenkinson's score as senior Jackson Sterrett (Hendersonville, Tenn.) potted a loose puck in the crease.
- A one-timer on the powerplay by senior Cass Bowes (Sturgeon County, Alta.) marked Endicott's fourth tally of the night 6:05 into the second frame.
- With 20 seconds left in the second, senior Connor Beatty (Concord, N.H.) managed a loose puck in the low slot and fired the puck past sophomore Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.), bringing the score to 5-0.
- 1:13 into the third period, a bounce off a shot by junior Jacob Shankar (Johnstown, Ont.) made its way into the net, losing junior Ryan Wilson's (Shelton, Conn.) shutout bid and marking a 5-1 deficit.
- Freshman Michael Casey (Media, Pa.) regained the Gulls' five-goal lead 10:08 after Shankar's goal right above the crease, bringing the score to 6-1.
- Freshman Dane Probe (Calgary, Alta.) cut the Leopards' deficit to 6-2 13:53 into the third frame on a backhander that beat Wilson up high.
- Wilson made 24 saves in the win for the Gulls, while McGovern made 27 stops before senior Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) turned seven aside in relief.
