INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions got on the scoreboard in the opening minute of the game, winning the opening faceoff and getting a goal from Jack O'Rourke (Palisades, Calif.), who scored twice on the day. After the teams traded possessions without scoring, the Leopards came back to tie it at one on a goal by sophomore attack Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.), who led all Wentworth scorers with three goals. One minute later, the Leopards jumped in front as freshman attack Erik Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal. The freshman scored twice and added three assists for a team-high five points. Neither team scored over the next five minutes, as Leopard senior goaltender Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made three saves in that stretch. However, Emerson tied it at two with just over five minutes left on a goal by Skyler Celotto (Fairfield, Conn.). Celotto led all players with five goals and eight points, with his first goal knotting the game late in the first quarter. Wentworth took the lead back just 38 seconds later on a goal by senior attack Eric LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.), but once again the Lions tied it, this time scoring a man down to end the first in a 3-3 tie.
  • The teams traded goals to start the second, with the Leopards taking the lead and Emerson scoring to tie it each time. The four goals, scored in a span of under five minutes, left the game tied at five. But Wentworth then put back-to-back goals together, with Bouley getting his second goal followed by senior midfielder Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) getting his first of the year as the Leopards took a 7-5 lead with 4:35 remaining in the half. But following two saves by Munroe, the Lions were able to cut the lead to one with just 14 seconds left, courtesy of O'Rourke's second of the day, as the Leopards went into the intermission with a 7-6 advantage.
  • Munroe made two more saves in the opening minutes of the third, and Wentworth was able to build their lead back to two as Bouley scored his third. Vogt scored his second just over a minute later, as the Leopards scored three unanswered to go up 9-6. Then after not scoring for the first 11 minutes of the quarter, Emerson came back with a flurry. The visitors scored three goals over the final 3:15 of the third, with the final one coming as the horn sounded to tie the game heading into the fourth.
  • The Lions took the lead right away in the final period, as Celotto scored his fourth of the afternoon to give Emerson its first lead since the opening quarter. The Leopards received a man-up opportunity moments later, but could not capitalize, leaving them still down a goal. Seconds after the penalty ended, the Lions scored again to take a two goal lead. Two more goals, coming in a span of 1:21 from Celotto and Nicholas Fulgione (North Andover, Mass.) capped off a 6-0 run for Emerson that lasted over 15 minutes of game time and put them ahead 13-9. The Leopards got back on the scoreboard 47 seconds later, thanks to a goal by junior midfielder Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) with 6:47 remaining. Wentworth then got off several shot opportunities over the final six and a half minutes, but Lions goaltender Malcolm McGrath (Ridgefield, Conn.) shut the door and kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the way as Emerson picked up a 13-10 win.
