INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Following a penalty in the opening seconds by the Saints, Wentworth got on the board just 29 seconds in on a man-up goal by junior midfielder Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.). Just over a minute later, senior midfielder Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) scored the first of his two goals, with McKenna providing the assist as the Leopards quickly took a 2-0 lead. Wentworth took a penalty with just over six minutes remaining in the first quarter, but were able to successfully kill it off. The Saints got on the board seconds later, however, picking up a goal with 5:22 left to cut the lead to one. The home team responded, however, scoring twice in a span of 37 seconds as senior attack Eric LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) and sophomore attack Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.), who had three goals on the day, both scored to make it a 4-1 advantage. But right before the end of the period, Emmanuel picked up a goal, scoring with eight seconds left to end the first at a 5-2 score.
  • The Leopards again struck early, as sophomore attack Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) put in his fourth of the season at the 1:50 mark to put Wentworth back up by three. The Leopards then took a pair of one-minute penalties at the same time, giving the Saints a two-man advantage, but Wentworth was able to again kill their penalties without surrendering a goal. Emmanuel got back in the game late in the second, though, scoring the next two goals to cut their deficit to just one with 3:55 remaining, and kept the Leopards off the board the rest of the way to end the half down 5-4.
  • Senior attack Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) scored the first of his team-high three goals just over 90 seconds into the third, putting the home team up by two. Following a save by senior goalkeeper Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.), who stopped six shots on the day, Madden scored his second of the day with 8:55 left in the third, again giving Wentworth a three goal lead. After the Saints took a slashing penalty and put the Leopards up a man, Maklan added another goal to put the Leopards ahead 8-4. The home team then pulled away in the final minutes of the third quarter, as Prunier scored back-to-back goals 48 seconds apart to make it a 10-4 game heading into the final period.
  • Maklan scored his third of the game in the fourth quarter just short of the six minute mark, finishing the scoring on the day for the Leopards. Wentworth allowed just one shot on goal over the final 15 minutes of play, with Munroe stopping the lone attempt. Despite a goal by Emmanuel with a little over two minutes left, the Leopards came away with an 11-5 win to earn their first victory of the season.
