Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Mount St. Mary for Second Straight Win

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team outscored Mount St. Mary 10-3 over the final 45 minutes of action as the Leopards (4-3) downed the Knights (4-1), 14-6, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

Graduate student Danny Bartosiewicz (North Grafton, Mass.) tied a single-game program record with seven caused turnovers while seven student-athletes recorded at least two points as the Black & Gold extended their win streak to two and have won four out of five after starting the season 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth started the game with a pair of goals in a span of 1:49. Freshman Erik Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.) factored in both goals, scoring with 12:34 left and then assisting on senior Erik Madden's (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) marker with 10:45 left. Mount St. Mary used a 3-1 spurt to tie the game with 22 seconds left in the quarter, however, senior Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) put the Leopards on top at the end of one, scoring with five seconds left.
  • The Leopards scored three of the four goals scored in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead with freshman Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.) scoring with 11:07 and 4:13 left, respectively, and Madden scoring with 5:54 left.
  • After an early goal by the Knights to open the third quarter cut the lead to 7-5, Wentworth used a 5-0 run to close out the quarter with two goals coming from junior Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.), and single markers from sophomore Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) and Madden. The run extended into the fourth quarter where the Leopards got goals from senior Nick Gore (Salem, N.H.) and Prunier. The Knights scored with 1:43 left, their first tally in a span of 27:43.
  • Hiller scored three goals and added a pair of assists in the win. Madden had two goals and two assists, McKenna and Voght each had two goals and an assist, and Prunier and Gore scored twice. Sophomore Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a solid day at the X, winning 18-of-23 face-offs and scooping up 14 ground balls. In addition to Bartosiewicz's seven caused turnovers, senior Sean Lazzaro (Franklin, Mass.) caused four. Senior Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made seven saves. Wentworth had a 48-18 shot advantage and a 50-24 edge in ground balls. The Leopards were successful on 14-of-15 clears.
