INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards fell in a hole early, surrendering two goals in a span of 50 seconds as the Bison took a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the opening quarter. Following a timeout from Wentworth after the second Nichols goal, senior goalkeeper Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made one of his 11 saves on the day to keep the deficit at two, and moments later the Leopards got on the board on a goal by freshman attack Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.), coming off an assist by sophomore midfielder Dryden Fisher (Haverhill, Mass.). The goal got Wentworth within one, and although they put three more shots on goal throughout the rest of the quarter, Nichols goalkeeper Brady Morgan (Framingham, Mass.) turned them aside each time. Munroe made one save the rest of the way as well, ending the quarter with the Bison leading 2-1.
  • After going the first five minutes without an opportunity, the Bison got off four shot attempts in a span of 1:18, but couldn't connect to extend their lead. Wentworth hit a post earlier in the quarter, but the Leopards were able to score the tying goal with 7:10 remaining on a goal by sophomore attack Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.). Just over two minutes later, Nichols took the lead right back, as Cian Keohane (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored his second of the day to put the Bison back in front. Despite three more shot attempts from Wentworth, they were stopped each time as Nichols took a 3-2 lead into the half.
  • A pair of early shots for the Leopards were denied, but senior midfielder Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H) scored his team-leading 15th of the season to tie it at three with 3:19 gone by in the third. Another pair of shots missed the mark for the Leopards, who looked to take the lead for the first time in the game. But following a Wentworth turnover, Nichols came right back to go ahead once again, scoring at the 5:31 mark to go up 4-3. Each team had two more shot attempts but were all unsuccessful, but Madden came through with his second of the day with 4:09 remaining in the third to tie it at four. Then late in the quarter, following a Bison penalty, Wentworth converted on a man-up opportunity to go ahead for the first time. Sophomore attack Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.) put in his ninth of the year as the Leopards took a 5-4 lead into the final period.
  • The Leopards took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bison 6-2 over the final 15 minutes. Senior attack Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) and Hiller scored two goals in 46 seconds to put Wentworth ahead by three, but Nichols came back with a goal less than a minute later to pull within two goals. Junior midfielder Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) scored his first of the day two minutes after the Bison goal, giving Wentworth their three-goal lead back. After another save by Munroe, Bouley scored his second with 3:21 to go to extend the lead to 9-5. McKenna added his second goal as well, scoring just 38 seconds later, and senior attack Eric LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) scored the Leopards' final goal of the day with 1:54 remaining as Wentworth won its first conference game of the season and improved to 5-3 overall.
