INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a pair of shots from midfielder Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H) just missed the mark, with one ringing off the post, Gordon got the first goal of the game 4:02 into the first quarter. Joel Bean (Macedon, N.Y.), who had two goals and two assists for Gordon, scored the opening goal of the night. The Leopards took a penalty shortly after but successfully killed it off, and Wentworth then tied the game on a goal by senior attack Eric LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.), coming off an assist by sophomore midfielder Nico Pasciuto (Middleton, Mass.), who had two helpers on the night. The Leopards nearly took the lead late in the first, but a shot by freshman attack Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.) put one off the post as well, as the teams went into the second quarter tied at one.
  • Wentworth again found themselves shorthanded early in the second, as the home team took two penalties but again didn't allow a goal while playing down. But after the penalties expired, the Fighting Scots scored to take a 2-1 lead. Hiller then tied the game three minutes later, scoring the first of his three goals to even the score at two, as junior midfielder Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) provided one of his two assists on the play. The Leopards had a few chances to take the lead, but had multiple shots blocked just after tying the game. After senior goalkeeper Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made one of his eight saves, Gordon put one in with 1:38 remaining to take a 3-2 lead into the half.
  • The Leopards got a pair of shots on goal early in the third, but Gordon goalkeeper Colin Liscomb (Woodstock, Conn.), who made 16 saves on the night, stopped both attempts. Wentworth's offense then came to life later in the quarter, as the Leopards scored five goals in a span of 7:04. Hiller and McKenna first scored two in a 36-second span to give Wentworth a 4-3 lead, but the Fighting Scots came back to tie it with just under seven minutes gone by. Senior attack Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) then scored to make it a one-goal lead for Wentworth once again, then Madden connected on two straight goals 44 seconds apart to put the Leopards ahead 7-4. However, Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa.) scored his second of the game to cut the lead to two going into the final period.
  • Munroe made three saves in the first two minutes of the fourth to keep it a 7-5 game, but Bean eventually broke through with his second of the night to narrow the lead to one goal. After the Leopards got the ball back, Hiller scored his third to make it an 8-6 lead for Wentworth, with sophomore attack Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) picking up one of his three assists on the play. But Gordon won the ensuing faceoff and went right down the field to score, picking up a goal just eight seconds after the Leopards had scored. A goal by Marco Fernandez (Fishkill, N.Y.) tied it at eight, then with 5:05 left Bui scored his second goal to put the Scots ahead 9-8. Wentworth got the ball with just under a minute remaining and a chance to tie it, but couldn't convert on the opportunity, dropping a one-goal decision to Gordon.
