Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) recorded seven points on five goals and two assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team defeated Salve Regina, 11=8, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

With he win the Leopards improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in CCC play while the Seahawks fall to 6-7 (4-3). With one game left in the regular season, the two teams are presently tied for fourth place in the standings and are vying for a home playoff game next Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth scored twice in the first quarter with freshman Calvin Jozokos (Pelham, N.H.) scoring 2:59 into the contest, followed by a senior Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) goal with 3:59 left. Just 35 seconds later, Salve Regina got on the board when sophomore Max Beauchamp (Saunderstown, R.I.) made it 2-1.
  • The Seahawks scored twice in a span of 41 seconds when graduate student Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.) and junior Brendan Treacy (Danvers, Mass.) gave the hosts the lead. Wentworth responded with the next three – all assisted by Madden – as sophomore Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.), senior Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.), and freshman Erik Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.) put the Black & Gold ahead, 5-3, with 2:01 left in the half. Beauchamp scored with 42 seconds left making it a one-goal game.
  • Midway through the third quarter, Madden scored a man-up goal to give the Leopards a 6-4 lead, however, Beauchamp and sophomore Liam Cooney (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored to tie the game with 3:10 left in the frame. Prunier put Wentworth ahead for good with a goal with 2:39 left.
  • Vogt, Madden, and McKenna all found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter, giving the Leopards a 10-6 lead. The Seahawks pulled within two with 3:04 left after junior Brendan Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.) and Tracey scored, however, Bouley iced the game with a goal with 2:13 left.
  • Bouley, Prunier, and Vogt each had two goals and an assist while McKenna scored twice. Voght also scooped up six ground balls while sophomore Connor Charron (North Andover, Mass.) was 13-of-22 at the X. Senior Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) turned aside 23 shots.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today was the 23rd all-time meeting between the two teams. Salve Regina holds a 13-10 series lead.
