MILTON, Mass. – Junior Kobi Buffa (Craryville, N.Y.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (10-4, 2-2 CCC) sank the game-winning goal 1:57 into overtime to lift the Leopards to their tenth win of the season, overcoming the Curry Colonels (3-10, 1-4 CCC) by a 6-5 final score Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Buffa gave the Black & Gold a 1-0 lead just under five minutes into the game before senior Stephen Stackhouse (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) knotted the score for the Colonels just over two minutes later. At the 7:11 mark, sophomore Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) regained Wentworth's lead at 2-1 before Curry knotted the score at two-all at the 5:04 mark.
  • Stackhouse gave the hosts a 3-2 edge nearly two-thirds of the way through the second frame before senior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) tied the score at three aside at the 2:37 mark, marking a 3-3 knot heading into the halfway point.
  • While a man-down, Buffa gave the Black & Gold a 4-3 lead just over three minutes in the third quarter before senior Dom Cerone (Hanover, Mass.) knotted the game back up for Curry with a tally at the 6:49 mark, raising the score to 4-4.
  • Cerone gave Curry a 5-4 lead with 7:44 left in the fourth frame before junior Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.) tied the score with 5:12 to go. Both teams couldn't break the scoreless tie by the end of four frames, bringing the tilt to extras.
  • With 2:03 left to go in overtime, Buffa ripped his third goal of the game to earn Wentworth their second conference win of the season. In goal, junior Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) made eleven saves on 16 shots. Senior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) was near perfect at the X, going 12-for-15 with nine ground balls, while Buffa also chipped in with four scoops.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Winners of four of the last five, the Leopards lead the all-time series, 19-8.
