BOSTON, Mass. – Competing for the first time in 728 days, the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team took to the water on Saturday to compete in the 56th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Racing in the Club Fours race, the Leopards placed 42nd in the 44-boat race with a time of 19:49.422.

The Club Fours race featured numerous NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions as well as independent rowing clubs and alumni boats from institutions which annually compete in the prestigious event.

Wentworth was in 42nd place at each of the three race checkpoints, reaching the Riverside checkpoint at 4:33.865, the Weld checkpoint at 10:47.861, and the Community Boating checkpoint at 16:27.552.

While this was the Black & Gold's first regatta in nearly two years, it was also the first Head of the Charles experience for the crew, which consisted of junior coxswain Virginia Partlow (Mechanicville, N.Y.), freshman Tim Pugliese (Dorchester, Mass.), junior Tommy Velardi (Madbury, N.H.), junior Carl Werenski (West Springfield, Mass.), and junior Will Sandblom (Bedford, Mass.). Pugliese and Werenski were also making their collegiate debuts.

The Leopards anticipate having a full slate of regattas on their schedule this spring, which should be announced in the early winter.
