Ithaca Rallies Past Men's Soccer

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Jack Monnes (West Hartford, Conn.) scored with 7:18 remaining to snap a 1-all tie and lift the Ithaca College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on the opening day of the Cadet Kickoff Classic.

Monnes marker capped off a two-goal comeback as the Bombers erased a 1-0 deficit in the win.

The first half saw few scoring opportunities as the teams combined for just six shots, however five of them were put on frame.

Wentworth took a 1-0 lead at the 48:27 mark as senior Matt Cicalis (Bridgewater, Mass.) put the Leopards on the board. Sophomore Joe Limoli (Peabody, Mass.) picked up the assist as he sent a cross from left to right where Cicalis put the shot home inside the right post.

The Leopards' lead stood until the 52nd minute of play when junior Nate Schoen (Wauwatosa, Wis.) sent a cross from the right side to the left where sophomore Max Barish (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) put in a header to the right side.

Sophomore Jack Ochs (Norwell, Mass.) sent a long ball to Monnes who put the Bombers in front at the 82:48 mark when he went in alone.

Wentworth appeared to tie the game at the end of regulation, however the goal was called off as the officials ruled time had expired prior to the goal being scored.

Freshman Max Lichtenstein (Boca Raton, Fla.) made four saves to pick up the win. Junior Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) made one save. Ithaca had a 9-8 shot advantage and an 8-0 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth plays host Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
