BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) recorded a hat trick and junior Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) recorded a pair of assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated Lesley, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Sweeney Field.
With the win the Leopards even their record to 2-2 while the Lynx also see their record fall to 2-2.
Lesley struck first, scoring on its first shot of the game. Freshman Jack Wadleigh (Glastonbury, Conn.) threaded a ball to senior Nuno Pereira (Sao Filipe, Cape Verde). Pereira fired a shot from outside the right corner of the box which found the upper left corner at the 12:10 mark.
Wentworth controlled the game from there, putting numerous shots on net, however, sophomore David Crutchfield (Shrewsbury, Mass.) kept his team in the lead. In the 33rd minute, Martins nearly tied the game on a header off of a corner kick, however Crutchfield denied the bid.
At the 34:25 mark Price got the equalizer has he converted on a cross from Martins and put a shot home to the left side.
Price scored two goals early in the second half – both coming within 3:04 of each other – to give the Black & Gold a 3-1 lead. His second goal of the game, the eventual game winner, came on a tic-tac-toe play where senior Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) fed freshman John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who sent a pass to Price. Price put home his shot inside the right post at 46:04. At 49:18, Martins picked up his second helper of the game as he served a cross to Price, whose header found the back of the net.
Junior Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) didn't need to make a save while Crutchfield made 10 stops. Wentworth had a 28-6 shot advantage and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Wentworth hosts 15th-ranked UMass Boston on Monday night.
