BOSTON, Mass. – After 110 minutes of action neither team could find the back of the net as the Wentworth Institute of Technology and Roger Williams University men's soccer teams played to a 0-0 tie in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Leopards run their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2), standing at 7-6-2 overall and 3-1-2 in league play while the Hawks are 7-5-4 (3-2-1).
Wentworth had a chance to grab a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, however, sophomore Griffin Price's (Alendale, N.J.) bid was cleared out by a backline defender just before it could find the back of the net. Each team put a shot on net late in the first half, however, would be unable to break the tie.
Roger Williams nearly went ahead in the 67th minute as senior Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) attempted a shot through the defense, but the ball was cleared away by a Leopard backline defender and away from an open net. With time winding down in regulation, senior Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) put a shot on net which was turned aside by sophomore Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.).
The first overtime saw Wentworth earn three corner kicks in the first 1:59, with the third nearly winning the game for the hosts as Basaca served the ball into the box where senior Joe Kalil's (Franklin, Mass.) bid went just high.
Roger Williams put three of its four shots on frame in the second overtime, however, all were saved by sophomore Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.).
Chomicki finished with 11 saves for Wentworth while Geschickter made nine stops for Roger Williams. Shots (22-22) and corner kicks (9-9) were both even. A physical game saw the teams combine to commit 52 fouls and there were five combined yellow cards.
Both teams return to action Wednesday. Wentworth is at Endicott and Roger Williams is at Western New England.
