HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After spending the first chunk of play by pressuring Gordon, Wentworth surrendered a throw-in to the Fighting Scots which resulted in a double-header and a goal from Benji Wright (Franklin, Tenn.) at the 3:21 mark.
  • Just over two minutes later, sophomore Raphael Ribeiro (Medford, Mass.) had a wide-open lane to shoot the ball into the left side of the net, tying the score at one apiece at the 5:26 mark.
  • The Fighting Scots had many corner kicks following the goal and attempted to repeat their successful play from the first tally. Offense broke down for Gordon, giving Wentworth a great chance to score on a header from senior Augustin Edwin, Jr. (New Bedford) that was denied at the 26:25 mark.
  • Ian Shepard (Matthews, S.C.) of the Fighting Scots dribbled his way through Leopards' defenders and found himself with a clear lane to shoot, beating senior goalkeeper Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) to give Gordon a 2-1 lead at the 30:57 mark.
  • At the 36:07 mark, Wright found himself alone without a defender in sight. He notched a goal to put Gordon up 3-1.
  • 22 seconds into the second half, Wentworth was awarded a penalty kick on a Gordon foul. Ribeiro took his powerful shot to the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
  • Wentworth's offense ignited after Ribeiro's second tally. Shots coming from senior TJ Prouty (Glendora, California), sophomore Christopher Jimenez (Doral, Fl.) and senior Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) were all denied.
  • Quintero turned over the ball to Shepard at the 83:17 mark, giving Shepard a chance to extend the lead. Gordon scored, making the score 4-2.
  • The Leopards had a ton of confidence to get things evened up by the end of the game. A slick header from Edwin Jr. off of a feed from junior Jacob Dukshire (Nashua, N.H.) found its way into the back of the net at the 89:12 mark.

THE SERIES:

  • This is the 33rd time the two teams have met. Gordon leads the all-time series, 22-9-2.
