NEW LONDON, N.H. – Junior Chritopher Jimenez (Doral, Fla.) scored the game's lone goal and senior Noah Lawless (Whitefish Bay, Wisc.) made five saves to notch his first solo career shutout as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated Colby-Sawyer, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth applied pressure early and had its first scoring attempt in the sixth minute of play when freshman Alex Burnham (Gilmanton, N.H.) put a shot on net that was saved. The Leopards had a corner kick off that save, their first of three in a span of 2:12, however, were unable to generate chances off those set pieces.
  • Lawless denied the Chargers in the 13th and 28th minutes to keep the game scoreless and Wentworth almost pulled ahead on a shot attempt by sophomore Jacob Crugnale (Canton, Mass.) that was saved.
  • The teams traded shots on goal in the 51st and 55th minutes with each team's keeper coming up with the stop. In the 61st and 65th minutes, seniors Jacob Dukeshire (Nashua, N.H.) and Nile Keiller (Bowie, Md.) both put shots on the target but both were turned away.
  • The Chargers had a pair of shot attempts stopped by Lawless in the 73rd and 76th minutes of play before Jimenez broke the ice with a goal, assisted by sophomore Kyle Hallahan (Westwood, Mass.), at the 79:30 mark to give Wentworth a 1-0 lead.
  • With time winding down, the Chargers had a corner kick, however, were unable to get a chance to attempt to tie the game.

THE SERIES:

  • Winners of the last two and four of the last five series meetings, Wentworth leads the all-time series, 11-9-2.
