Wentworth Remains Undefeated With 5-4 Win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Dan Alexander's (Merrimac, Mass.) three-set win at number two singles capped off a three-point rally and allowed the Wentworth men's tennis team to remain unbeaten (3-0, 3-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference) with a 5-4 win at Gordon.

 

Wentworth led, 1-0, after the first doubles match when Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) teamed with Alexander to take an 8-3 win.  The host Fighting Scots took numbers two and three doubles and led, 2-1, heading into singles play.

 

Rodriguez won, 6-0, 6-1, at number one singles to tie the match at 2-all, but Gordon posted straight-set wins at number six and five singles to lead, 4-2.  Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) and Ross Lyons (Madison, Conn.) picked up points at numbers three and four singles, respectively, to even the score at 4-all.  Alexander would drop the first set, 3-6, and win the second set, 7-6 (7-5).  His 6-4 win in the third set gave him and his teammates the victory.
