Wentworth Drops 5-4 Decision to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University remained perfect in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 5-4 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon.

 

Both teams entered the day undefeated in the TCCC, with each team sporting a 3-0 record entering the match. With the win by the Hawks, Roger Williams moves into a tie for first place in the conference, along with Nichols College who also has a 4-0 record in the TCCC.

 

The Hawks took two out of the three doubles matches to begin the day, with Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) defeating Juan Rodriguez and Dan Alexander 8-5 at #1. Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) and Nate Rohman (Topsham, Maine) had the other win at #2, beating Nate Gove and Ross Lyons 8-4. Baltazar Jimenez and Joe Centola prevented the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) and Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.)

 

Pacino and Alexander would match up again, this time at #2 singles. Pacino emerged again with the win by a 7-5, 6-3 score. Rodriguez and Kleitz squared off at the first flight, with Rodriguez coming away with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 win. Baker would take his #3 match 7-5, 6-2 over Gove, while Hawvermale defeated Lyons 6-1, 7-6 (4) at #5. Jimenez took Rohman to three sets with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win at #4, and the Leopards' Dave Filar got the third singles win for Wentworth via a forfeit at the sixth flight.

 

Roger Williams (7-6, 4-0 TCCC) will play Tuesday at Western New England College at 3:00 p.m., while Wentworth (3-2, 3-1 TCCC) travels to Colby-Sawyer College, also on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
