Emerson Edges Wentworth, 5-4

BOSTON, Mass. – Emerson College won matches at number four and number five singles to rally from a 4-3 deficit and defeat the Wentworth men's tennis team, 5-4.

 

Wentworth held a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play, as Dan Alexander (Merrimac, Mass.) and Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) won, 8-2, while Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) teamed with Ross Lyons (Madison, Conn.) at number two doubles to win, also by am 8-2 score.

 

After the Lions won at number three doubles and number two singles to tie the match at 2-all, Rodriguez won at number one singles giving the Leopards a 3-2 lead.  The lead would be short-lived as Emerson claimed number six singles to tie the match at 3-all.

 

Gove's straight-set win at number three singles gave Wentworth a 4-3 lead, but the Lions won three-set battles at numbers four and five singles to take the match.
