Leopards Open Spring Season With Sweep

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth men's tennis team opened the 2010 season in fine fashion by sweeping Anna Maria, 9-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match played The Sportsmen's Tennis Club.

The host Leopards began the match with a 2-0 lead, as the AMCATS were forced to default at number three doubles and number six singles.  At number two doubles, junior Josh Welt (Oak Hill, Va.) teamed with sophomore Matt Levine (Brockton, Mass.) to take an 8-5 win over junior Haakim Ferguson (Boston, Mass.) and freshman Jack Donaldson (Kittery, Maine) before sophomore Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) teamed with junior Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) to win at number one doubles, 8-4, over junior Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) and classmate Adam Williamson (Spencer, Mass.).

Rodriguez gave Wentworth a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one singles before sophomore Joel Vastl (North Salem, N.H.) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over freshman Ricky Louis (Brockton, Mass.) at number five singles to clinch the match.  Sophomore Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) defeated Donaldson, 6-1, 6-0, at number four singles, while sophomore Tim Nguyen (Brockton, Mass.) took a 6-3, 6-3 win from Ferguson at number three singles.  Gove completed the sweep with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Williamson.
