Nichols Hands Wentworth 7-2 Loss

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's tennis team improved to 5-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action with a 7-2 home court victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. Nichols improves to 8-4 overall, while Wentworth falls to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference matches.

The Bison led, 2-1, after doubles play thanks to a default win at third doubles and an 8-2 second doubles win from Isiah Prosper (Manchester, Conn.) and Dan Young (Washington Depot, Conn.) over Thuan Nguyen (Randolph, Mass.) and Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.). The Leopards' top tandem of Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) and Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) edged out the Bison's Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.) for a 9-8 (7-4) victory.

In singles action, Nichols took a default win at the sixth flight and wins from Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainebleau, France) and Prosper at the fifth and fourth flights respectively to clinch the match. Rodriguez got a point back for the Leopards at the top flight with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.).

Nichols puts its TCCC record on the line Friday in a 3:30 match at Endicott which was rescheduled from April 23. Wentworth hosts Roger Williams Saturday at noon for a conference match.
