Rodriguez Named TCCC Player of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology sophomore men's tennis player Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) capped off his unbeaten season by being named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year, as announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.  In addition, Rodriguez was a first team all-conference selection in singles play and he and doubles partner, junior Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine), were an honorable mention selection in doubles play.

Rodriguez posted a perfect 11-0 slate in conference matches only and was 17-0 overall without dropping a set.  The closest an opponent came to taking a set from him was on three occasions when they won three games and he won 11 sets by a 6-0 score.  His 17 wins this season breaks his own single-season record of 13, which he set as a rookie when he was named First Team All-TCCC in both singles and doubles.  In 33 career matches spanning two seasons, Rodriguez is an impressive 30-3 (.909) which ranks him first in winning percentage and second in career wins.

For the third consecutive season Gove earned honorable all-conference accolades in doubles play as he and Rodriguez went 5-2 in TCCC play (6-2 overall) at number one doubles.  The six doubles wins, combined with two with other partners gave Rodriguez eight for the season and Gove posted seven total doubles wins.  In two seasons Rodriguez has a 19-8 career doubles record, while in his three seasons Gove has a 24-19 career doubles mark.

For the second season in a row the Leopards qualified for TCCC Tournament play, as Wentworth fell to top-seeded Nichols Monday night, 6-2, to finish the season with a 6-8 record.
