BOSTON, Mass. – The Nichols College men's tennis team received two wins apiece from sophomore Isiah Prosper (Manchester, N.H.) and senior Dan Saucier (Newington, Conn.) to run its win streak to 13 as the Bison downed Wentworth, 7-2, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center.
The Bison took a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play as Saucier and freshman Paul Healy (Pomfret, Conn.) defeated freshman Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) and sophomore Andy Chen (New Taipei City, Taiwan) at number three, 8-4, and Propser and junior Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) teamed to win at number two, 8-3, over senior Joe Centola (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.).
Wentworth took its only point in doubles when junior Juan Rodrigues (Quito, Ecuador) teamed to win at number one (8-6) over Nichols seniors David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Arsen Gasparyan (Miami, Fla.).
Nichols took five of the six singles flights as Drucker won, 6-0, 6-1 over Centola at number two, Saucier defeated Melnik, 6-1, 6-0, at number five, Propser defeated Filar, 6-1, 6-0, at number four, freshman Andrew Haas (Northbridge, Mass.) beat Chen at number six (6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8)), and Gasparyan downed Gove, 6-3, 6-1, at number three.
In a battle of two of the top players in the league, Rodrigues defeated freshman Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.), 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at number one to give the hosts their lone singles point.
With the win the Bison improve to 14-3 overall and remain unbeaten (7-0) in league play. Nichols will be at Endicott on Wednesday. Wentworth falls to 4-6 (2-5) and is at Wheelock on Monday.
