Men's Tennis Races Past Lesley

WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team notched its fourth straight victory Thursday night as the Leopards downed Lesley, 8-1, in non-conference action at the Mount Auburn Tennis Center.

With the win the Leopards improve to 5-6 on the season, matching the win total from the 2017-18 campaign, while the Lynx fell in their season opener.

The Black & Gold set the tone early by sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 2, junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) defeated junior Gerry Chica (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior Evan Flaherty (Scituate, Mass.), 8-1. Sophomore Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass) and freshman Samuel Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) teamed up at No. 3 for an 8-4 win over junior Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Evan Zona (Hingham, Mass.). No. 1 saw sophomore Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) give Wentworth a 3-0 lead with an 8-5 win over sophomore William Sgro (North Haven, Conn.) and Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine).

Sophomore Matt Roberts (Westfield, Mass.) gave the Leopards a 4-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over freshman Christian Fox (Old Saybrook, Conn.) at No. 6 singles before Lesley got on the board when Corcoran defeated Maki, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5. Sophomore Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Flaherty at No. 4. Mularski defeated Chica at No. 3, 6-3, 7-5; North bested Urban, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2; and Hall won, 6-0, 6-2, over Sgro at No. 1

Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Endicott on Saturday.
