Men's Tennis Downs Western New England

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five student-athletes combined to win eight matches as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Western New England on Sunday afternoon at MIT's Dupont Courts.

With the win the Leopards improve to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in CCC play while the Golden Bears fall to 2-5 (1-1). Wentworth has now won two in a row and six of their last eight matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth swept doubles play, with two of the three matches needing a tiebreak to seal the win. At No. 3, sophomore James Weete (Dover, N.H.) teamed up with classmate Rene Rodriguez (Doral, Fla.) for an 8-3 win. At No. 2, junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and junior Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) were 8-7 (7-1) winners. Completing the doubles sweep were sophomore Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.) and freshman Manas Arya (Hessen, Germany), who won at No. 1, 8-7 (9-7).
  • Doraci's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 put the Leopards ahead, 4-0, before Marwaha clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
  • Gallegos won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1, Arya was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 3, and Rodriguez was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 2.
