Track Sets Multiple Records at Tufts Jumbo Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Wentworth Institute of Technology track and field team set multiple records Saturday, as the Leopards competed at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational.

Junior Kyle Moser (Southbury, Conn.) led the way for Wentworth, setting an all-time record in the shot put, finishing with a 14.15 meter throw and coming in second place overall. Moser set another record as well, as he had a 13.80 meter throw in the weight throw event and took fifth place in that event.

Junior Christian Army (Pembroke, N.H.) set a program record in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85 seconds while placing third in the event.

Sophomore Jack Chausse (Newport, R.I.) took home a first place victory in the men's 800 meter run, finishing in 2:01.98. On the women's side, junior Colleen Sullivan (East Bridgewater, Mass.) won the 800 meter as well, picking up a time of 2:50.37. 

In the men's 60-meter dash prelims, the Leopards had seven runners compete. Freshman Jacob Noonan (Windham, Maine) had the best finish for Wentworth, placing 17th with a 7.42 second finish. Freshman Scott Stehlik (Northport, N.Y.) picked up 20th place, crossing in 7.50. A trio of Wentworth runners then placed consecutively, as sophomore Elijah Sleasman (Albany, N.Y.) placed 23rd, junior Matt Murphy (Foxborough, Mass.) came in 24th, and junior Jordin Prampin (Worcester, Mass.) finished 25th, as the runners had times of 7.72, 7.74, and 7.81 seconds respectively. Sophomore Tyler Klockars (Phillipston, Mass.) placed 29th in the event with a time of 8.10 seconds, and right behind him was sophomore Jay Joseph (Springfield, Mass.), who crossed the finish line in 8.27 seconds and came in 30th place.

Six runners competed for Wentworth in the men's 200 meter, with Murphy picking up the top finish for the Leopards. The junior finished ninth and had a time of 24.40. Noonan finished shortly after, crossing in 24.70 and taking 11th place. In 13th place was Prampin, who finished in 25.16, and freshman Nate Muller (Concord, N.H.) had a finish time of 25.35, placing 15th. Freshman Jacob Stewart (Worcester, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 25.93 and took 19th place, and finishing things off for the Leopards was junior Dylan Kindberg (Rehoboth, Mass.), who came in 22nd place with a time of 27.32.

In the men's 400 meter, Stehlik took fourth place with a 55.17 finish time. Classmate Ryan Abbotoni (Windham, Maine) finished in 56.65 seconds and came in ninth place, while sophomore Matthew Wong (Quincy, Mass.) picked up 14th place, finishing in 1:05.46. The men's team had one runner compete in the 600 meter as well, as freshman Nicholas Whitcomb (Plymouth, Mass.) took ninth place with a time of 1:45.85.

In the men's mile run, freshman Christian Vallerand (Woburn, Mass.) finished in sixth place, crossing in 5:03.65. Sophomore William Carpenter (Salisbury, Vt.) had a 5:12.34 finish, coming in ninth, while in 10th place with a time of 5:29.42 was freshman Robbie McCue (East Weymouth, Mass.). Senior Rob Pineault (Andover, Mass.) competed in the men's 3000 meter for the Leopards, coming in 13th place and finishing in 9:58.13.

Sophomore Elijah Sleasman (Albany, N.Y.) picked up a second-place finish for Wentworth in the pole vault, finishing with a distance of 3.85 meters. Freshman Nate Muller (Concord, N.H.) had a 3.55 meter vault, coming in fourth place. Junior Dre Colas (Cambridge, Mass.) competed in the men's long jump event, placing 12th and finishing with a 5.88 meter jump.

Colas competed in the men's triple jump as well, coming in fifth place with an 11.90 meter jump. Finishing just behind him in sixth place was Kindberg, who had a jump of 11.70 meters.

Following up Moser's record in the shot put was senior Luis Godoy (Newton, Mass.), who took fourth place with a 12.74 meter throw. Klockars finished with a 10.52 meter throw, finishing 14th overall, while Joseph took 18th place with a 9.01 meter throw. Finishing out the event for the Leopards was senior Jack Crowley (Scituate, Mass.), who came in 20th place and had a throw of 8.86 meters. Godoy competed in the weight throw as well, coming in 12th place with a distance of 10.37 meters on his throw.

In the women's 60-meter dash, sophomore Dionne Ang (Victoria, Australia) placed 13th and had an 8.86 second finish. Freshman Erin MacLean (Newton, Mass.) competed in the 400 meter and finished in 1:12.96, placing 10th overall.

Junior Annabel Chu (Raynham, Mass.) ran the women's 3000 meter for Wentworth, coming in 16th place and crossing the finish line in 12:19.27. In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the team of Ang, MacLean, Sullivan, and freshman Ashley Perry (Londonderry, N.H.) finished in 4:46.19, placing seventh overall in the event. 

The Leopards' next meet is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 28, when they compete at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University at 4:00 p.m.
