Track and Field Competes in Two Events Sunday

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Wentworth Institute of Technology track and field team competed in two meets Sunday, first competing in the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University, then participating in the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.

 

In the men's 60-meter dash prelims, there were seven Wentworth runners competing. Freshman Jacob Noonan (Windham, Maine) won his heat with a time of 7.47 seconds, placing fifth and receiving an automatic bud to the 60-meter final. Freshman Scott Stehlik (Northport, N.Y.) came in sixth place, earning a trip to the final with a 7.39 second finish. Finishing in 17th place was sophomore Darwin Mondesir (Boston, Mass.), who crossed the line in 7.59. Right behind him in 7.63 seconds was freshman Ryan Abbotoni (Windham, Maine), who came in 18th. Junior Matt Murphy (Foxborough, Mass.) finished 21st, picking up a time of 7.73, and sophomore Jay Joseph (Springfield, Mass.) came in 26th with a 7.98 second finish. Junior Max Juscen (Watertown, Mass.) finished with the same time of 7.98, picking up 27th place to round out the event for the Leopards.

 

In the 60-meter final, Stehlik came in fifth place at 7.37 seconds, improving on his prelim time. Noonan crossed in eighth place, improving on his prelim time as well with a 7.46 second finish.

 

In the men's 200-meter dash, junior Jordin Prampin (Worcester, Mass) had a 19th place finish, coming in at 25.45 seconds. Shortly behind in 21st place and 25.83 seconds was junior Ed Ardolino (Saugus, Mass.). Finishing things off for Wentworth in the 200-meter was freshman Jacob Stewart (Worcester, Mass.), who finished in 26.10.

 

Sophomore Henry Walker (Brookline, Mass.) competed in the men's 800-meter, coming in with a second-place finish in 2:05.83.

 

Four runners participated for the Leopards in the men's one mile run, with senior Rob Pineault (Andover, Mass.) turning in the best time for Wentworth, picking up eighth place and a 4:47.71 finish. Freshman Christian Vallerand (Woburn, Mass.) came in 13th place, finishing in 4:53.39. Crossing in 5:11.20 and 17th place was sophomore William Carpenter (Salisbury, Vt.), while freshman Robbie McCue (East Weymouth, Mass.) took 21st place and a 5:28.84 finish.

 

Junior Christian Army (Pembroke, N.H.) qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals with an 8.99 second finish in the qualifiers, then finished fourth in the finals, improving on his time and crossing the finish line in 8.94. Army competed in the men's long jump as well, taking fourth place in that event as well and jumping 6.00 meters.

 

The Leopards had two groups compete in the men's 4x400 meter relay. The team of Abbotoni, Prampin, Murphy, and freshman Scott Stehlik (Northport, N.Y.) finished fifth in 3:40.92, while Army, Walker, Noonan, and freshman Nicholas Whitcomb (Plymouth, Mass.) crossed in 3:58.55, taking eighth place.

 

In the men's shot put, junior Jared Pierce (Biddeford, Maine) took home seventh place with a throw of 14.04 meters. Sophomore Tyler Klockars (Phillipston, Mass.) competed in the event as well, putting in a throw of 9.21 meters and finishing 21st. Pierce also had a turn in the men's weight throw event, adding a throw of 10.08 meters in that event and earning 19th place.

 

In the women's events, sophomore Dionne Ang (Victoria, Australia) competed in the women's 60-meter dash, coming in 18th place with an 8.90 second finish. In the women's 400-meter, freshman Erin MacLean (Newton, Mass.) took 10th place, crossing the finish line in 1:12.27.

 

Junior Colleen Sullivan (East Bridgewater, Mass.) competed in the 600-meter for Wentworth, finishing in 1:55.64 and coming in 10th place, and junior Annabel Chu (Raynham, Mass.) ran the women's 1000-meter, placing eighth and picking up a time of 3:29.86.

 

At the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University, the Leopards had two athletes in competition. Sophomore Jack Chausse (Newport, R.I.) competed in the men's 1000-meter event, taking 20th place and finishing in 2:33.00. Junior Kyle Moser (Southbury, Conn.) participated in two events on the day. He finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 14.67 meters, then added a 13.53 meter throw in the weight throw, placing 19th in that event.
