Moser Breaks Shot Put Record as Track and Field Competes at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology track and field team was in action Saturday afternoon, competing at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.

 

The Leopards had three members compete in the men's 60-meter dash. Freshman Jacob Noonan (Windham, Maine) had the best finish for Wentworth, posting a time of 7.44 seconds and placing 10th. Behind him was classmate Jacob Stewart (Worcester, Mass.) who came in 20th place and finished in 7.83. Crossing the line in 8.02 seconds and picking up a 21st place finish was sophomore Jay Joseph (Springfield, Mass.).

 

Three Leopards participated in the men's 200-meter dash, with junior Jordin Prampin (Worcester, Mass) turning in the best time, finishing in 25.02 seconds and earning 18th place. Freshman Ryan Abbotoni (Windham, Maine) ended the race in 20th  place, picking up a 25.24 second time. Stewart then finished the 200 in 25.86, taking 24th place.

 

Junior Matt Murphy (Foxborough, Mass.) had the best time for the Leopards in the men's 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 54.43 seconds and 13th place. Sophomore Matthew Wong (Quincy, Mass.) finished seconds later, crossing in 22nd place and a time of 1:02.50. Freshman Nicholas Whitcomb (Plymouth, Mass.) rounded out the event for the Leopards, coming in 23rd place and picking up a 1:02.58 finish time.

 

Freshman Robbie McCue (East Weymouth, Mass.) ran in the men's 800-meter, finishing in 11th and crossing in 2:28.11. Sophomore Henry Walker (Brookline, Mass.) competed in the men's 1000-meter, coming in with a 9th place finish and a time of 2:49.63. The Leopards had one runner compete in the one-mile run as well, with senior Rob Pineault (Andover, Mass.) finishing 10th in 4:48.68.

 

Two Wentworth members ran in the 3000-meter. Freshman Christian Vallerand (Woburn, Mass.) had the best finish in that event for Wentworth, earning a 9"50.48 time and eighth place. Sophomore William Carpenter (Salisbury, Vt.) was close behind in 10th place, finishing in 10:08.11.

 

Junior Christian Army (Pembroke, N.H.) competed in the 60-meter hurdles for the Leopards, taking fourth place and an 8.97 second finish time. Junior Dre Colas (Cambridge, Mass.) competed in the high jump event, turning in a jump of 1.75 meters, tying for 14th place.

 

Freshman Nate Muller (Concord, N.H.) participated in the pole vault, tying for 17th with a 3.70 meter vault. In the triple jump event, Army came in 17th with a 6.01 meter jump. Colas finished with a jump of 5.58 meters, taking 26th place.

 

Junior Kyle Moser (Southbury, Conn.) finished second overall in the men's shot put, setting a new school record with a 15.13 meter throw and qualifying for the New England DIII Championship in two weeks. Junior Jared Pierce (Biddeford, Maine) and senior Luis Godoy (Newton, Mass.) also competed in the event. Pierce placed 18th with a 12.88 meter throw, and Godoy's throw was 12.19 meters, good for 25th overall.

 

Moser and Godoy also participated in the men's weight throw, as Moser finished 13th in that event with a 13.70 meter throw. Godoy placed 19th, with his throw coming in at 13.04 meters.

 

For the women, sophomore Dionne Ang (Victoria, Australia) competed in the women's 60-meter dash and women's 200-meter dash. She took 30th in the 60-meter, crossing in 8.94 seconds, and finished in 30.45 in the 200-meter, earning 26th place.

 

Freshman Erin MacLean (Newton, Mass.) took 12th place in the women's 600-meter, picking up a time of 1:56.06. Junior Colleen Sullivan (East Bridgewater, Mass.) ran in the women's 800-meter, placing 18th and crossing in 2:47.10.

 

Junior Annabel Chu (Raynham, Mass.) ran the women's one-mile, finishing in 6:02.81 and placing 21st.

 

The Leopards' next event is Friday, Feb. 25, when Wentworth starts the first of the two-day New England DIII Championship in Middlebury, Vt.
