Pierce Selected for NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Jared Pierce (Biddeford, Maine) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology indoor track team has been selected to compete at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held March 10-11 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.

Pierce, who qualified in the shot put, threw a personal and program-best 16.02 meters at the New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 24. This mark is the 19th-best in Division III. He had positioned himself to be inside the top 20 when he threw 15.98 meters at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 2. In eight events this season, Pierce finished first three times.

For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.

The third selection in Wentworth's indoor track & field history (2016-present), Pierce is the Leopards' first field event student-athlete to be selected. Current Wentworth assistant coach Dan McSolla '18 competed in the mile in both 2017 and 2018, earning All-America honors in 2017 with an eighth-place finish.

Pierce will compete on Saturday, March 11, with the preliminaries and finals being contested at 11:00 a.m. Central Standard Time (12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time).
