Outdoor Track Competes at Division III New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Paced by 13 points from senior Jared Pierce (Biddeford, Maine), the Wentworth Institute of Technology outdoor track and field team collected 14 points to finish 18th at the Division III New England Championships, held this weekend at Springfield College.

Pierce's 13 points came as he picked up a second place (eight points) in the discus with a top throw of 46.55M. He collected five points in the shot put and set a program record with a top throw of 16.16M, which will move him up on the NCAA Division III performance list.

The Leopards' other point came in the 4X100M relay as freshman Kevin DeCollibus (Wareham, Mass.), freshman Will Stewart (Windham, Maine), sophomore Ryan Abbotoni (Windham, Maine), and sophomore Scott Stehlik (Northport, N.Y.) took eighth with a time of 43.25 seconds, setting a program record in the process.

On the women's side, freshman Laci Santos (Medway, Mass.) set a program record in the heptathlon with 3,533 points. Her top finish in the seven-event competition came in the 100M hurdles, where she had a third-place time of 16.02 seconds. Santos also set program records in the high jump (1.37M), shot put (8.93M), and long jump (4.64M).

Selected student-athletes who qualified will compete at the All-New England Championships next weekend in Dedham, Mass..
