Men's Cross Country Competes in Season-Opening Meet

BOSTON, Mass. – Competing for the first time in nearly 22 months, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team opened the 2021 season at the Suffolk Short Course Classic at Franklin Park.

A total of 102 runners from 10 teams – representing all three NCAA divisions – competed in the five-kilometer race. Wentworth had seven student-athletes compete in the race

Senior Rob Pineault (Andover, Mass.) was the first member of the Leopards to cross the line, finishing 53rd (42 points) with a time of 18:32.7. Freshman Christian Vallerand (Woburn, Mass.) placed 62nd (47 points) in his collegiate debut with a time of 18:50.5. Graduate student Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Brendan Jeanjaquet (Weymouth, Mass.) finished within 2.4 seconds of each other as Allen was 68th (51 points) with a time of 18:57.9, while Jeanjaquet scored 52 points with a time of 19:01.3 after finishing 69th. Sophomore William Carpenter (Salisbury, Vt.) competed Wentworth's scoring runners, finishing 86th (57 points) with a time of 20:28.2.

A pair of freshmen making their collegiate debuts rounded out Wentworth competitors as Robbie McCue was 81st (21:44.1) and Nicholas Whitcomb (Plymouth, Mass.) finished 96th (22:41.7).

Wentworth will next compete at the Ron Ouellette Invitational in Biddeford, Maine on Saturday, September 11.
