INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards held an 8-5 lead in the opening minutes following a pair of three pointers from senior forward Samantha Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) and senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.). Kelley later made another shot from beyond the arc to give Wentworth a 14-8 advantage, but the Mariners responded with six straight points to close out the quarter and tie the game at 14-14.

  • After falling behind early in the second, junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) hit a three pointer to put the Leopards back on top at 19-17. Mitchell came back with eight unanswered points to reclaim the lead midway through the second quarter, and ended up taking a 31-26 lead into the half.

  • After Wentworth cut the lead to three following a layup by junior guard Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.), Mitchell scored six straight points and looked as though they would start to pull away. But a three ball by Cormier and four consecutive points by Busbey provided all the scoring in a 7-2 run for the Leopards, as they fought back to a four point deficit. However, Mitchell took it right back, scoring eight unanswered to close out the third with a 12 point lead.

  • The Mariners added another six straight to open up the fourth quarter, pushing their lead to 53-35. Wentworth was never able to close the gap, and couldn't get back into the game as Mitchell pulled away to take a 66-44 victory.

THE SERIES

  • This was the third all-time meeting between the two programs, with Mitchell now holding a 2-1 series lead.
