INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards fell into an early hole, as the Mariners started off the game with 12 straight points, including four from Lauren Plissey, who led Maine Maritime with 13 points on the night. Sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.), who had a double-double on the night, got the Leopards on the board, and junior guard Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.) followed with a three pointer. After another jumper by David, Wentworth ended the first quarter down 19-7.
  • A 13-3 run for the Mariners started off the second quarter, but the Leopards went on a run of their own to close the gap. Freshman forward Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) got things started with a three pointer, and classmate Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) followed with five straight points. David then followed with a three pointer and a layup, and two free throws by senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) capped a 17-0 run to pull Wentworth within five points. Two late baskets from Maine Maritime helped them push the lead back to nine as they ended the half with a 36-27 lead.
  • The Mariners continued to play strong to start off each quarter, as eight straight points helped them build their lead back to double digits. A jumper by Farrell and another three by David were the only baskets allowed by Maine Maritime in the third, as they took a 49-34 advantage into the final quarter.
  • After 10 straight points to open up the fourth, the Mariners were able to put the game out of reach. The visitors continued to build their lead throughout the fourth quarter, eventually going on to win by a score of 71-42.
