INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams traded three pointers in the opening minute, as Julia Quinn (Thomaston, Conn.) got the scoring started for the Golden Bears, but was answered by sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.), who hit a shot from beyond the arc moments later. After Quinn added a pair of free throws to give Western New England the lead, senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) hit another three for the Leopards, followed by a layup from freshman forward Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.), who led all scorers with 16 points on the night. The five unanswered points gave the visitors an 8-5 lead with just over two minutes gone by. But from that point on, it was all Western New England the rest of the quarter. The Golden Bears closed the quarter on a 23-2 run, as they got seven points from Lindsey Carey (Greenfield, N.H.), who tied for the WNE team-high with 12 points in the game. The Golden Bears shot 65 percent from the field in the quarter, while shooting 67 percent from downtown. The stretch gave the home team a 28-10 lead after one.
  • WNE continued their hot shooting to start the second quarter, scoring the first six points of the period to open up a 24 point advantage. A pair of baskets from Amoddio, who scored six points in the quarter, helped to stop the skid for Wentworth, but the Leopards couldn't narrow the lead in the second. Emma Kahn (Thomaston, Conn.) put up five points for the Golden Bears in the quarter, leading all players. Sam Bodey (Marlborough, Conn.) added four more for WNE as the home team outscored Wentworth 18-7 in the period, taking a 46-17 lead into the half.
  • It was a similar story in the third, as Western New England went on a 10-2 run to open the third, as Fisher added four more points to her total during the span. Wentworth was able to put a stop to the run with six straight points, with two coming from Kelley and a pair of baskets from sophomore Mary Kate Gould (Medway, Mass.). Although the teams were close in point total throughout most of the third, WNE closed the quarter strong and held a 61-27 lead going into the final period.
  • Another strong run was in store for the Golden Bears to start the fourth, as the home team added a 16-3 stretch to open the final frame, with six coming from Bodey thanks to a pair of three pointers. Kelley answered with five points in under a minute, and Amoddio added two late threes of her own. However, the Leopards could not get closer, as WNE shot 80 percent in the quarter and finished with an impressive 95-44 victory.
