INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards took the lead right out of the gate, as sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) hit a three pointer in the opening seconds of the game. Junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) added two more points moments later, but the Rams, who shot over 54 percent on the night, took over the quarter from that point on. They got started with a 15-2 run that lasted just over three minutes, with Gabriella DeComo (Portsmouth, R.I.) accounting for eight points during the stretch. Freshman forward Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) put in a layup for Wentworth, but the home team then scored 12 more unanswered points, and ended the quarter scoring 18 of the last 19 points. Six of those points for the Rams came from Amanda DeAngelis (Londonderry, N.H.), who finished the night with a game-high 16 points as Suffolk held a 35-10 lead after one.
  • After an early three from the Rams, the Leopards scored six straight points early in the second quarter. David got it started with a layup, which was followed by a shot from beyond the arc from senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.). A made free throw provided the last of the six points as Wentworth looked to narrow their deficit, but Suffolk again came back with a response. A 9-2 pushed the lead back up, and after the teams traded baskets in the final minute, the Rams held a 51-31 lead going into halftime.
  • A jumper and three pointer for Suffolk to start off the third helped grow their lead, but freshman guard Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.), Wentworth's leading scorer on the night, answered with a basket for the Leopards. The Rams again picked it up during the middle of the quarter though, scoring 10 of the following 12 points and continuing to widen their lead. After Carroll broke the skid with four straight points, Wentworth allowed just one more score the rest of the quarter, trailing 68-30 to start the final quarter.
  • The teams traded baskets to start the fourth, as Carroll made a pair of baskets and junior guard Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.) hit a three. After a basket from the Rams, Carroll came back with her own three pointer with just under six minutes remaining. Suffolk then put in a pair of baskets, and were able to hold the Leopards to four points the rest of the way, taking an 87-44 victory.
