Gordon Rallies Past Women's Basketball

WENHAM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon 57-48 on Thursday night despite a career-high 21 points from sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and a double-double recorded by sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth's night started with a made layup by junior Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.), putting the visitors ahead 57 seconds into the game. After two buckets made by the Scots to put themselves ahead by a 4-2 score, Carroll nailed her first three-pointer of the night to give the Leopards a 5-4 lead. After a basket by freshman Hayley Goodwin (Quechee, Vt.) put the hosts ahead 6-5, Amoddio posted four-straight points to give the Black & Gold a 9-6 lead after the initial quarter.
  • Another three from Carroll extended the Leopards' lead to 12-6 at the start of the second quarter. However, Gordon scored seven-straight points, with five coming from senior Serianna Anderson (Newcastle, Wash.) to give themselves a 13-12 lead. With 3:47 remaining in the quarter, Carroll nailed a three and did so again 30 seconds later to give Wentworth an 18-13 lead. The Scots answered with five points of their own to bring the game to an 18-18 tie at the halfway mark.
  • Carroll gave the Leopards a 21-18 lead with a three-pointer 1:07 into the third quarter. Gordon then rattled off a 15-1 run, backed by points from Anderson, sophomore Ami Rivera (Concord, N.H.), and senior Madison Wynbeek (North Haledon, N.J.) to put the hosts ahead 33-22. The two teams traded baskets to end the quarter, resulting in a 35-26 lead for Gordon after three frames.
  • The two teams endured a back-and-forth scoring affair to start the final quarter, resulting in a 39-32 lead for the Scots. The hosts extended their lead on a three-pointer from junior Hannah Geerts (Durham, N.C.), making the score 42-32. Wentworth went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to five until another four points by the Scots gave Gordon a 46-37 lead. Two three-pointers each from Amoddio and Carroll then cut the Leopards' deficit to 46-43. Gordon went on an 11-5 run to end the game, resulting in a 57-48 victory.
  • Carroll led all scorers by scoring a career-high 21 points while Amoddio notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. David recorded five steals and notched the 300th point of her career with seven points.
