Suffolk Pushes Past Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team was outscored by the Suffolk Rams 71-38 in a conference matchup Saturday morning, with the Rams charge led with 18 points by junior Amanda DeAngelis (Londonderry, N.H.).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Suffolk started the game on an 8-0 run, with six of the points coming from junior Amanda DeAngelis (Londonderry, N.H.). A basket by sophomore Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) slowed their roll to an 8-2 score. After a DeAngelis two, senior Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) sank her first bucket of the day to mark a 10-4. The two teams traded baskets to end the quarter, leaving the Rams with a 16-9 lead.
  • The Rams scored the first eight points of the second quarter before sophomore Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) make a basket to post a 24-11 score. After a Suffolk score, Busbey drained a three to make the score 26-14. Wentworth rattled off three-straight points before Suffolk rattled off the next nine. Sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) scored two baskets before the end of the quarter to mark a 35-21 score.
  • The two teams traded scores to start the third quarter, with the Leopards cutting the deficit to 13 off of another Busbey three-pointer at 39-26. Suffolk score eleven-straight points before two from Foster to mark a 50-28 score. Freshman Colby Guinta (Manchester, N.H.) drained a three to make the score 53-28. Suffolk scored three more points to end the quarter with a 56-28 advantage.
  • Guinta drained a three at the start of the final quarter to give Suffolk a 59-28 lead. The teams traded baskets until the end of regulation, with the Rams getting three-pointers from freshman Ellie Moffat (Stratford, Conn.) and sophomore Aisling Crowley (Braintree, Mass.), to mark a 71-38 score. The final basket of the game was two points for the Leopards from sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.)

 

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Rams lead the all-time series, 28-9.
