Women's Basketball Topped by Endicott

BOSTON, Mass. – Four student-athletes scored in double figures to help the Endicott College women's basketball team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 87-47, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Gulls improve to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in league play while the Leopards fall to 3-10 (0-7).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott jumped out to a 4-0 lead before a three pointer from sophomore Regan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) put Wentworth on the board and cut the lead to one. An 8-2 run by the Gulls extended their lead to 12-5 on a junior Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) jumper with 4:47 left. Freshman Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) made a pair of layups and Dempsey followed with a basket with 22 seconds left to give Endicott an 18-7 lead at the end of one quarter.
  • Junior Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) brought the lead back down to single digits when she opened the second quarter with a layup, however, Endicott outscored the Black & Gold 14-6 over the next seven and a half minutes and took a 32-15 lead with just over three minutes left. Junior Briana Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and Carroll each hit two free throws late in the half to cut the deficit to 37-21 at the half.
  • Junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) made a layup to open the third quarter but a 24-2 Endicott run broke the game open and gave the Gulls a 59-27 lead late in the frame and they led, 63-34, after three quarters.
  • A 10-0 run by the Gulls midway through the fourth quarter extended the lead further.
  • Amoddio led the Leopards with 13 points. Madonia added nine, while Carroll scored eight. Freshman Smanatha Jones (Beverly, Mass.) had six points, five rebounds, and three assists.
