Eastern Connecticut Slips Past Women's Soccer

MANSFIELD, Conn. – Scoring a goal in each half, the Eastern Connecticut State women's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Eastern Connecticut scored at the 3:22 mark of the contest, shortly after the Warriors took a corner kick. Senior Sierra DeCarli (Tolland, Conn.) recorded the unassisted marker.
  • The hosts held Wentworth without a shot attempt through the first 49:03 when sophomore Lauren Bradley (Lumberton, N.J.) had a shot saved. Bradley put a pair of shots on goal and served four corner kicks in a six-minute span to try and generate some offense for the Leopards.
  • A foul in the box at the 78:02 mark resulted in a penalty kick for Eastern Connecticut. Senior Carlie Dreyfus (Stafford Springs, Conn.) converted the attempt to put the Warriors ahead, 2-0.
  • Freshman Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made her collegiate debut with the start for the Black & Gold, making one save in 45 minutes. Sophomore Adrianna Arona (Westfield, Mass.) made two saves in the second half.

THE SERIES:

  • Today marked just the second series meeting between the two schools, with the other coming in the 2004 ECAC Tournament.
