Women's Soccer Battles Emmanuel to Scoreless Draw

BOSTON, MASS. – Despite 110 minutes of game time and two overtime periods, neither team was able to pick up the victory as Wentworth and Emmanuel played to a scoreless draw Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards had a golden opportunity in the first minute of the match, but were unable to connect as a shot went high.
  • Wentworth goalkeeper Adrianna Arona made two saves in the first half, and the despite two corner opportunities for the visitors, the Leopards were able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard to keep the score 0-0 at the break.
  • Following an early save by Juliana Heaton, who came in to play goal out of the intermission, Wentworth again had a chance to put a goal on the board but instead had a shot go off the post.
  • Following a scramble in front of the net late in regulation, the Saints hit a post of their own but were unable to pick up the go-ahead goal, sending the game into sudden-death overtime.
  • The Leopards had two shots on goal in the first overtime period, but Emmanuel goalkeeper Lexi Della Rocco came through with a pair of saves.
  • Both teams had one shot on goal in the second overtime, but the goalkeepers were up to the task once again, as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

THE SERIES:

  • This was the 23rd meeting between the two schools, with the two teams both holding a 10-10-3 record in the series.

NEXT UP:

  • The Leopards return to action Saturday, Sept. 11, as they host Western Connecticut State University at Sweeney Field, with game time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
