BOSTON, Mass. – Scoring a pair of goals in a span of 1:14 late in the first half, the Western Connecticut State women's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-0, Saturday afternoon on Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Western Connecticut put early pressure on Wentworth as the Colonials put a shot on net in the third minute and had a corner kick in the sixth minute. Shortly after the corner kick attempt, the Colonials thought they had gotten on the board, however, a goal was waived off due to an offsides call.
  • The Colonials took a 1-0 lead at the 37:02 ,ark when junior Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) made a lng run down the left side and put home a shot to the top corner. At the 38:16 mark, Western Connecticut took a 2-0 lead when junior Skylar Jorge (Trumbull, Conn.) scored when she caused a turnover and fired a low shot into the corner.
  • In the 89th minute, Wentworth had a pair of chances to get on the board when junior Madison Wolf (Falmouth, Maine) put a shot on net which was saved by senior Karly Martin (Bristol, Conn.). The rebound came out to senior Neva DiBlasi (Salem, N.Y.), whose shot attempt was also saved by Martin.
  • Freshman Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) stopped a career-high seven shots for the Black & Gold.

THE SERIES:

  • Today marked the 17th all-time meeting between the two teams with Western Connecticut holding a 13-14 series advantage.
