HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Nor'easters got on the board early, as Lizzie Frattaroli got the home team on the board in the second minute. The midfielder sent a shot to the bottom right corner of the net, beating Leopards goalkeeper Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) to give UNE a 1-0 lead.
  • Wentworth picked up a pair of corner kick opportunities minutes later in an effort to tie the match at one, but were turned aside both times. Heaton then made four saves shortly after to keep the visitors within a goal.
  • After another corner opportunity for the Leopards was unsuccessful, the Nor'easters extended their lead to two goals in the 32nd minute. Meredith Kennedy picked up the goal this time, again going to the bottom right side of the net and putting the home team up by two going into the intermission.
  • After Heaton made another save early in the second half, the Leopards got back in the match with a goal to cut the deficit to one. Following a free kick from senior Neva DiBlasi (Salem, N.Y.), freshman forward Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) kicked the ball in the air to keep it away from a defender, then struck it out of midair to the top right corner to beat UNE goalkeeper Sydney Gillingham and get the Leopards on the board, with DiBlasi picking up the assist.
  • Following the goal, Heaton kept Wentworth within one, making four saves in a five-minute span.
  • The Leopards pushed with a late shot attempt, but were unable to find the tying goal in the final minutes as UNE hung on for a 2-1 win over the visiting Leopards.

  • This was the 27th ever meeting between the programs. The Nor'easters now hold a 12-11-4 lead in the series.
