HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards had multiple chances in the early stages of the match, as Wentworth put three shots on goal in the first six minutes, including two from sophomore forward Mckenzie Collins (Seymour, Conn.). But Colonels goalkeeper Stella Schofield turned aside all three attempts, keeping the match scoreless.
  • In the minutes that followed, Curry had three shot attempts of their own in addition to a corner kick opportunity, but they too were unable to break the scoreless tie.
  • Leopards freshman goalkeeper Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) made three first half saves as the two teams went into the intermission deadlocked at 0-0.
  • Both teams had shot opportunities early in the second half, but it was the Colonels who put up the first goal. Curry's McKenna Reid had a free kick opportunity that found it's way through multiple players in front of the net, beating Heaton to the left side to give the home team a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute.
  • The Colonels kept up the attack following the goal, but Heaton and the Leopards were able to keep it at a one goal deficit.
  • The score remained the same until the 81st minute, when a foul in front of the net gave Curry's Samantha Borges a penalty kick opportunity. Borges sent a shot to the left that just made it past the hands of Heaton, giving the Colonels a 2-0 lead that they held on to for the rest of the match.

  • The two programs had their 25th ever meeting, with Wentworth now leading the series 17-6-2.
