LEXINGTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team (0-1) opened the 2023 season on the road, visiting the nearby Lesley Lynx (1-0) and suffering a 2-0 setback to open the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lesley managed to get a ball on net at the 5:35 mark that was saved by senior Adrianna Arona (Westfield, Mass.). A shot on goal by sophomore Megan Barilone (Bennington, Vt.) in the 21st minute that was saved was followed just over eight minutes later by a shot from senior Mckenzie Collins (Seymour, Conn.) that hit the post.
  • Arona later made two saves in a span of 4:41 to keep the score knotted at zero heading into halftime. The first half saw a total of five shots on goal, with Lesley holding a 3-2 advantage.
  • After rattling off two shots in less than a minute span just over five minutes into the second half, the Lynx beat Arona on a shot by an all-alone senior Haile Carrillo-Hayes (Chatsworth, Calif.), who was fed by sophomore Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.). The score put the hosts ahead, 1-0, at the 66:12 mark.
  • The hosts doubled their lead at the 78:52 mark as junior Sacha Porter (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) scored on a high-rising shot, marking a 2-0 advantage.
  • Arona made five saves in the setback, while sophomore Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) posted two saves in the first half to preserve the win for the Lynx.
