BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players scored goals and junior Maria Selman (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) had a pair of assists as the Wentworth Institute of technology women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2023 campaign, blanking Fisher, 5-0, Wednesday night on Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth wasted little time garnering scoring chances, as junior Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) had a header attempt go high in the fifth minute and freshman Brianna Reid (Bridgewater, Mass.) put a shot on net that was saved in the eighth minute.
  • At the 8:12 mark, Montville provided the only goal the Leopards would need as she notched her second of the season. Off a turnover, Selman sent a long pass towards the box where Montville collected the ball and put a shot home inside the right post.
  • After a pair of shots on goal that were saved in the 13th and 16th minutes, sophomore Jordan Dahan (Kennesaw, Ga.) put the hosts ahead 2-0 when freshman Bryce Bateman (Henderson, Nev.) sent a pass down low where Dahan sent a shot from the far right side inside the left post. Dahan helped set up Wentworth's third goal of the game when she started a play that sent a ball to Selman. Selman crossed it to senior Madelyn Seder (Northborough, Mass.), who tucked the ball inside the left post at 21:32.
  • Freshman Lilli Rick (Janesville, Wisc.) capitalized on a turnover in front of the net and put a shot home to the lower middle at 32:16, making it 4-0. With 5:41 left in the half, freshman Lily Carlson (New Braintree, Mass.) put the hosts ahead, 5-0, when she scored from classmate Anja Rand (Montpelier, Vt.) and sophomore Lina Arlander (Skjetten, Norway).
  • After outshooting the Falcons 16-1 in the first half, the Black & Gold held a 13-1 shot advantage in the second half, with six of those shots going on net. For the game, Wentworth had a 29-2 shot advantage and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Freshman Claire Reif (Winter Springs, Fla.) didn't need to make a save in her 45 minutes of work to collect her first collegiate win. Classmate Shyla Kulesza (Grafton, Mass.) made one save over the final 45 minutes in her collegiate debut.
