WENHAM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback to Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday.
The Fighting Scots had a 3-0 lead after doubles play as the hosts won by default at No. 3 to start the match. Freshman Kiara Hima (Oakville, Conn.) and senior Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) dropped an 8-0 decision at No. 2, which was followed by senior Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Morgan Collins (Warwick, R.I.) falling, 8-3, at No. 1.
Gordon won by default at No. 6 singles before clinching the match at No. 5 where junior Kirsten Gramajo (Boston, Mass.) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Erickson was defeated, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Collins was bested, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, Sollecito picked up the Leopards; lone point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Hima battled to a 6-3, 6-3 setback at No. 4.
Wentworth hosts Endicott on Thursday.
