WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Moravian scored the first four points of the first set before a service error and an ace from freshman Ema Thomposon (Lewiston, Idaho) put Wentworth on the board. The Greyhounds pushed their lead to 7-3 and led, 12-10, before a kill from Waggoner brought the Black & Gold within one. Moravian used a 10-5 run to make it 22-16 before back-to-back kills from Barthe and an attack error brought Wentworth to within three. Out of a timeout the Greyhounds closed out the set with three straight points, winning 25-19.
  • Freshman Ashley Cao (Morrisville, N.C.) served a pair of aces and senior Devin Neal (Loveland, Ohio) put down a pair of kills as part of a 7-0 run to start the second set. Wentworth increased its lead to 14-4 when Zabloudil served an ace and led, 16-6, after a service error. Using a 7-3 run, Moravian made it 19-13 and, after Davies served an ace to make it 23-14, the Greyhounds scored four straight points to pull within five at 23-18. However, back-t0-back kills from Thompson and Waggoner gave Wentworth the 25-18 win.
  • The Greyhounds took a 2-1 lead with a 25-14 win in the third set. Moravian, which hit .632 (13-1-19) in the frame, raced out to a 14-4 lead and led 18-7before a 5-1 spurt, capped off by a kill from Neal, made it 19-12. The hosts scored six of the next eight points to close out the set.
  • A tightly contested fourth set saw eight ties and three lead changes. Moravian took a 14-13 lead after an attack error before Wentworth rebounded with a 7-1 run to take the lead for good at 20-15, thanks to a kill from Waggoner. The Greyhounds pulled within three on a pair of occasions, including at 22-19, however, a kill from Zabloudil and a pair of kills from senior Krisila Hammett (Boiling Springs, S.C.) evened the match at 2-all as the Leopards won, 25-19.
  • The deciding set saw Moravian take a 3-1 lead but a kill from Zabloudil started a 6-0 Wentworth run, which gave the Leopards a 7-3 lead. Zabloudil had three kills and a block during the run. Moravian came back to pull within two at 11-9 but a pair of errors around a Zabloudil kill gave the Black & Gold match point. A Moravian kill staved off match point, however, Neal and Barthe teamed up for a block to close out the match with a 15-10 win.
